Verbs appear in different moods / Modi (Sg. Modus).
The Indicative describes the reality, in contrary to the Conjunctive, which describes among ojthers the irreality.
Example:
ich gehe, du gehst, er/sie/es geht, wir gehen, ihr geht, sie/Sie gehen
I go, you go, he/she/it goes, we go, you go, they go
Compare:
- Indicative: ich gehe / I go
- Conjunctive: ich ginge / I would go
~ Konjunktiv I / Indirekte Rede / Reported Speech
~ Konjunktiv II / Wünsche, Hypothesen, Höflichkeit / wishes, hypotheses, politeness
- Imperative: geh! / go!
