Formation:

Form the 1st Person Plural and substitute the ending -ons by -ant.
habiter > habitons > en habitant

Usage:

The Participe Présent / Present Participle is used:

- as a substitute of a Relative Clause or a Causal Conjunction or
- as an Adjective.

Concerning the usage you can say:

- the Present Participe never stands alone, it always needs a complement
- if it substitutes a conjunction both parts of the sentence need the same subject, in this case it doesn’t change.

Examples:

causal	Ne disant rien de ce thème tout le monde pensait qu’il était ignorant.	Comme il ne disait rien de ce thème tout le monde pensait qu’il était ignorant.	As he didn’t say anything about the topic, everyone thought that he didn’t know anything.
Relative Sentence Substitute	Chaque personne parlant cette langue a un avantage.	Chaque personne qui parle cette langue a un avantage.	Every person that speaks that language has an advantage.

Ending of the Participle:

Participle have different endings - according to their number (singular and plural) and their gender (male and female) - when they are used as adjectives:

Singular	mangeant -	mangeante
Plural	mangeants	mangeantes

Example:

Une fille mangeante cherche une fourchette.
