Gerund / Gérondif

The Gerund / Gérondif is used for connecting sentences - like conjunctions or other connectors - when, by, ...

Form:

You use the 1st person plural and cut the ending -ons, instead you add -ant. You may also add the preposition “en”.

habiter > habitons > en habitant

En arrivant à la gare j’ai téléphoné.	Quand je suis arrivé à la gare j’ai téléphoné.	When I arrived at the station I was phoning.
En ayant ce problème une solution est compliquée.	Si on a ce problème une solution est compliquée.	If we have this problem, a solution is difficult.
En ne le faisant pas on ne fait pas de faute.	-	You don’t make any mistake by not doing it.
